“In my artistic journey, color is the energy I explore in real-time. It's not about the specific hues, but about their application and the mental journeys they inspire.
My love affair with painting began with cheap spatulas. The generous and liberating application of paint with these tools felt magical. Discovering the right 5-6 tools that align with my style brought everything together seamlessly, turning my canvas into a purposeful creation.
Success in my art is driven by three essential elements: music, my chosen tools, and a quiet space. With these, I create magic every time. My creative uniform—a tattered flannel, a beat-up green paint smock, and my beanie—helps me enter my magic zone.
Before painting, I review samples of subjects I've considered days prior. I'm constantly analyzing my work, and once an idea takes shape, I attack the canvas with purpose.
In my creative bunker, time becomes irrelevant. Even the moments of pause are vital, allowing me to reflect and propel forward. When I'm in the zone, external factors fade away. This isn't just a job; it's a passion and a calling.
Not everyone has the capacity to create. I often wonder why I was given this talent and what purpose it serves. Recognizing the importance of my gift, I strive to find a platform for impact, measure it in diverse ways, and combat feelings of inadequacy with an attitude of gratitude. I am enough, and what I create is enough.”
Artist Call:
Ideal candidates have a body of work that interprets the human figure, a strong online presence, and the ability to finish a 24x36 canvas with a live audience in 4 hours.

"Palette Clash," a dynamic live performance with a $1000.00 cash prize debuts at this year's West Loop Arts Fest!
Peterson Picture Co. is hosting lead artist Luis Guzman who will invite 3 artists to join him in this challenge. The event will allow the audience to see in real time how four artists use unique styles to paint their interpretation of a live model onto canvas.
